Profile

My experience has been gained from the challenging courses that I have chosen to further my education towards becoming a fully qualified Transport Planner. Reading University (B.Sc. Geography) and Westminster University (M.Sc. Transport Planning and Management) are two of the most respected universities in chosen areas of study and have enabled me to develop the following skills:

Whilst studying for my B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees I have gained great experience with computers. I am confidently experienced in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, SPSS and PowerPoint as well as the World Wide Web.

The M.Sc. course that I am currently studying has allowed me to develop my ability to initiate and carry out advanced analysis and research in the fields of transport planning and transport management.

Once awarded my M.Sc. course I will be allowed full exemption from the examination requirements for Membership of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport.

Additional Information

In 1993, for Work Experience, I worked for Eastleigh Borough Council for 2 weeks. During my time at the Borough Council I was shown many aspects of the council's work (including surveying, planning and environmental management). One of the tasks I was given was to give a presentation to council members on plans for an extension to a local leisure centre and the relevant planning implications. It was this insight that first attracted me to planning and it was the aim of eventually becoming a planner that has shaped the course of my past education and future employment.

I am also the co-founder and ex-treasurer of the 'Indie Society' at Reading University. This voluntary job has enabled me and the rest of the committee to work as a team to set-up and expand the society as well as organise events, and with persistent hard work the society, in just one year, has become the largest and most successful at the University.

Apart from music my interests also include football, and I have been the goalkeeper of one of the best teams at Reading and Westminster Universities. I also enjoy playing golf and tennis at a sociable level.

I am also on the Student Committee at Westminster University for my M.Sc. course, this role involves attending regular meetings with senior lecturers and other committee members to discuss important issues. Equally as important is the fact that the role also includes the fact that I am constantly available for other students to discuss their issues with myself and that I can convey these, on a formal level, to higher authorities within the University.
